Big Sister Sherrina and Little Sister Kaitlyn
Little Sister Kaitlyn and Big Sister Sherrina are two people who have joined the simple yet impactful mentorship program through BBBS.
Kaitlyn was a combination of nervous and excited when she first met her Big Sister Sherrina over 4 years ago through the Community-Based program. Her first impression of her Big was that she seemed fun, and she turned out to be right!
“She’s really easy to talk to, and she makes me feel better, and she likes having fun with me,” Kaitlyn said.

This match’s idea of a good time includes going out to eat, attending church together, and—Kaitlyn’s favorite—visiting the zoo! What could be better than seeing giraffes, monkeys, farm animals, and stingrays with a pal? Her first time feeding stingrays was made a lot easier when her Big Sister helped her, and now it’s one of her favorite parts of their zoo trips. But her most cherished memories together are right at her Big Sister’s house, petting and riding the horses there.
“She helps me through so much, we have fun together, and we’ve learned more about each other. I’m always excited to hang out with her,” said Kaitlyn on why their match is important to her.
Kaitlyn recommends the program to anyone looking to find a friend, get their mind off stuff, and grow a fun relationship with someone else. Her relationship with her own Big Sister has changed throughout the years, and she feels so much closer to Sherrina than before. According to Kaitlyn, even though she and her Big Sister are not the same age, Sherrina has become a friend that she can turn to whenever.
“I feel more comfortable going to her to talk about stuff. And she’s the first person that I ask my mom if I can go talk to when something happens,” Kaitlyn explained. “She really helps me.”
Being matched in a mentorship can be so much fun and uplifting, just take it Kaitlyn and Sherrina!
